Here are some images of the backpacks I will be ordering for $6. They have a cell phone holder and a water bottle holder. The scripture is attached to the zipper on a tag to be removed. They are really nice backpacks.

For those who are interested in participating and planning on purchasing a backpack and supplies I wanted to inform you of a way to save a little money. I ran across a ministry that provides backpacks, good quality, for outreaches @ $4.75/backpack + shipping…they are of the same quality as Jansport. If you would like you can commit to purchasing the school supplies and donate $6 for the backpack. The cheapest backpacks I have seen at Wal Mart are $9.00 + tax and no where near the quality of the backpack. If you are planning on using these backpacks I will need the donation by Friday July 23, 2010. I appreciate everyone’s help with this. MAD4Christ is organizing its first community outreach, in the Lincoln Elementary school zone, to help families in need. We are partnering with brothers and sisters of Christ, churches, and other community outreaches to help serve this neighborhood. Please read below to see the need. School Supply Lists Backpacks (Pre-K/Kindergarten) a total of 115 backpacks needed:
What are other ways you can help?
I will need all donations by Wednesday August 4, 2010 because the Outreach is August 7, 2010. Backpack/Cash donation drop off location: Each backpack/supplies will cost approximately $20 at Wal-Mart prices. All extra backpacks we will first be given to participating churches that have needy families within them then to Lincoln Elementary. If there are any remaining cash, it will be given to the Kingsway Community Center GED program. If you have any questions feel free to email me at mad4christ@ymail.com. Definition of Revival
1 : an act or instance of reviving : the state of being revived: as a : renewed attention to or interest in something b : a new presentation or publication of something old c (1) : a period of renewed religious interest (2) : an often highly emotional evangelistic meeting or series of meetings
2 : restoration of force, validity, or effect (as to a contract)
When we pray for revival to sweep across our church, cities, states, America, or world…what are we praying for? Are we praying for souls to be saved or for God to move and revive His local churches? The thing about this is the Holy Spirit dwells within all believers…so we do not need more God if He lives within us. So if the meaning of revival refers to something being restored or revived it would have to already exist to be revived. So revival isn’t for souls being saved but for the body of Christ to be revived.
My first issue is: this reflects a God that we have to wait on. That until He moves we cannot be revived. It puts all the blame on God. Do we really need more God when He already dwells within us or do we need less of us? Is it our responsibility to stay revived or Gods? Do we really have to wait on a Father to move when He has already paid the ultimate price? Why does a redeemed child of God need to be revived? If we as redeemed children need to be revived it is because we have lost touch with our Father…you want to be revived give up the things of this world keeping you from Him and go to Him!
Secondly is: it reflects an “I” mentality. We are already bought, adopted children of God, sons and daughters of God, redeemed men and women with God Himself living within us. Its focus is on God blessing us…is this the revival you are praying for? A”revived” child of God is one who is going to walk in obedience to God’s Word. According to the Word of God, those who obey Christ are those who love Christ (Read John chapters 14,15, & 16).
So when you are praying for revival I ask are you really wanting to be revived? If so, start living in obedience to the word of God and watch the revival take place in your life. Remember you are what you hang around…not meaning to abstain from the world but watch who your good friends are…(1 Corinthians 5:6, 1 Corinthians 15:33, Proverbs 12:26, Proverbs 27:17)
“Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control” “If you would learn self-mastery, begin by yielding yourself to the One Great Master.” IN WORD The contemporary church is plagued with problems of self-discipline. Sinful behaviors have infiltrated our congregations possibly at unprecedented levels. One reason self-control is such a problem for so many Christians is that it feels like a work of the flesh. We are told to live Spirit-filled lives, so we become passive. We have incorrectly assumed that any effort on our part is “works,” a product of the flesh and a symptom of legalism. We end up with a faith without works, and as we find out, that kind of faith is dead (James 2:15-20). Self-control is perhaps the most confusing of all the fruits of the Spirit. How can it involve the self and the Spirit at the same time? If it’s self-control, how can it be Spirit-control? It can’t. But, contrary to popular teaching, the Bible never tells us to be controlled by the Spirit, at least not in the sense that we lose our personality and will. We are to be born of the Spirit, filled with the Spirit, led by the Spirit, inspired by the Spirit, and sealed by the Spirit. But we are not controlled by the Spirit. The Spirit enables us to have self-control. A lack of self-control will cause us to neglect necessary disciplines like prayer, Bible study, contemplation, evangelism, and more. It will also cause us to indulge even godly desires in inappropriate ways. A lack of discipline distorts work, sexuality, entertainment, nutrition, and stewardship of time and money. If our lives were compared to an ancient city, self-indulgence would be the weakness in our walls. Erosion will eventually cause our protection to collapse and allow our enemies to raid. IN DEED A life of godly discipline is useful to God. He can accomplish much with it, because it can steward His vast resources appropriately. The uncontrolled life squanders God’s treasures–spiritual and material–and invites attack. At all costs, let the Spirit empower you to learn self-control. It is the key to managing all other fruitfulness. |
